Govt., hoteliers tap Expedia to tout Samaná’s tourism attractions

Samana, Dominican Republic.- Samaná Hotels and TourismCompanies Association (AHETSA) president Juan Francisco Bancalari on Mondayannounced a campaign through Expedia, to promote the destination’s tourist attractionsand benefits in at least 75 countries.

He said the campaign sponsored by the Tourism Ministry willsignificantly boost Samana’s global presence, to consolidate occupancy levels inthe Peninsula’s hotels, which he affirms were 45% higher last year than in2014.

The business leader also lauded the Samaná Tourism Cluster forits participation and support, “as an entity which works harmoniously and enthusiasticallyto promote the development of tourism in the province.”

Bancalari thanked Tourism minister Francisco Javier Garcia’s“strong support, who has appointed a qualified team to work with Expedia andAHETSA to develop the campaign staff.”


Miriam Hernandez, Expedia area manager for DominicanRepublic said they’ll continue wagering on Samaná province’s development andmarketing campaigns carried out by the online agency to position thedestination.

"By working with the Expedia group the hotels in theDominican Republic gain exposure in over 200 websites in more than 75 countriesworldwide, in addition to a variety of sites and mobile applications in brandssuch as Expedia®, ®, Travelocity®, Orbitz®, Hotwire®, Egencia®,Expedia® Affiliate Network and others," she said.

"We’re very proud of Samana’s growth during 2015,compared to 2014 was 45% from the number of rooms sold in the entire province,especially in Las Terrenas, Las Galeras and Samana. Our goal is to continuecollaborating in the destination’s growth, development and recognition," Hernandezsaid.

She thanked AHETSA’s support and confidence of Samaná andthe Tourism Ministry of to select Expedia for conduct the campaign. "Expediawill continue working to include more properties to its portfolio in 2016 andsupport Samana’s and Dominican Republic’s tourism growth.”
