Residents yell help for southwestern beach in deplorable state

Barahona, Dominican Republic.- Residents onFriday called "deplorable" the sprawl at the local Punta Inglesa beach(southwest) stoked by the authorities’ indifference.

They say the piling trash dragged by the currentsof the Caribbean Sea has seriously damaged the already eroded shoreline, while thelocal authorities fail to remove the waste.

"The local Town Hall, Tourism andEnvironment have left this space to fend for itself, facing increasingpollution and all the trash within Punta Inglesa’s perimeter."

They ask the authorities to join forces and haulthe trash away. "This is a site frequently visited by local and foreigntourists who get this bad impression of the city."
