Honduras denies involvement in seized cocaine shipment
Honduras.- Honduran authorities have confirmed that containers with a cocaine shipment seized in the Dominican Republic last Friday did not pass through or dock at Honduran ports. The General Directorate of Customs of Honduras reported that, according to the Container Control Unit’s traceability records, the containers did not touch land in Honduras. The records, certified by the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, show that the containers remained in Dominican ports.

The Guatemalan government also clarified that the container, which was allegedly carrying a large cocaine shipment, did not contain illegal substances when it left Guatemala. Using scanner technology, Guatemalan authorities had deemed the container “not suspicious” during inspection. The vessel carrying the container departed from Veracruz, Mexico, and made stops in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, and Puerto Cortés, before arriving in Puerto Caucedo, Dominican Republic, where authorities seized 9,588 kilos of suspected cocaine.
