Haiti accuses Dominican Republic, U.S., and Colombia of fueling security crisis

Washington, D.C.- During a special session of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, Haiti’s Defense Minister Jean Michel Moïse accused the Dominican Republic, the United States, and Colombia of fueling the nation’s internal security crisis. He claimed that networks operating from these countries are responsible for the illegal trafficking of arms and drugs into Haiti, which is exacerbating gang violence and destabilizing the country.

Moïse highlighted the Dominican Republic’s “porous” border as a major entry point for weapons and pointed to corrupt systems enabling smuggling. While recognizing efforts by the Dominican Republic to assist in military rebuilding, he stressed that without deeper cooperation, Haiti cannot combat the expansion of transnational criminal networks or reclaim its sovereignty. He also identified Colombia as the primary source of narcotics that pass through Haiti, contributing to a broader regional criminal economy involving money laundering, human and organ trafficking.

Calling for urgent international support, Moïse urged countries to provide resources for military training, infrastructure, and surveillance tools. He warned that Haiti’s crisis is no longer a national issue but a regional security threat requiring collective action.

This is a major problem. Stop blaming Haitians and start helping them by getting rid of the gangs.

Moïse, why would you cut off the hand that feeds you and the people of your country’s future. If the guns and drugs are entering Haiti, why are you not stopping it with your border personal? Stop always blaming others, and start looking inward as a country. You can not gain sovereignty until you rid the corruption of Governments that exist today and in the future.

Haiti should realize, there’s a growing trend globally of political conservatism, and nationalism. Governments are no longer willing to offer the types of assistance that they’ve done over the years. It’s time for Haiti to stop blaming others, and asking for help! Pick yourselves up. Help is not flowing the way it used to.

That is not true at all. The United States is always helping other countries as they are doing right now with the war. Haiti has always been left to defend themselves. All they are asking is give them the support that is given to other countries.

I agree. The US has literally poured hundreds of billions of dollars into Ukraine and Israel but can’t even provide a fraction of that financial support to Haiti, which is right in its backyard.

that kind of financial support just wouldn’t be feasible..unfortunately not because they dont need it, but because the leaders in charge of haiti have repeatedly shown they can’t handle large sums responsibly.. just look at what happened after the 2010 earthquake…billions in aid were pledged, yet much of it vanished into corruption and mismanagement and people barely saw the benefit. the issue isn’t a lack of money, it’s a lack of accountability in how that money is used.

Reminds me of Hugo Chávez and other politicians like him in our region. Always blaming others for the mess they’ve caused.

If you pour money into a toilet all you have is wet flushed money and no benefit. Haiti has been receiving billions from the US as well as other nations with absolutely no benefit or improvement at all. Until they stop blaming the rest of the world and take some responsibility I just can’t see pumping more wasted money into their gangland infrastructure.
