Despite major busts, traffickers still use the country as their drug bridge

Santo Domingo.- Despite Dominican Republic’s major blowsagainst drug traffickers, they continue to use the country as a bridge to shipdrugs to the United States and Europe, as evidenced by Antinarcotics (DNCD) seizedmore than 9.5 metric tons just this year.

According to DNCD figures, at least 23,316 arrests linkedto drugs in that same period, of which 483 were women, and confiscated large su ms of money, homes, vehicles andfirearms.

The DNCD seized RD$4.4 million, US$1.2 million and 740euros just in the last six months, as well as 62 cars, 24 SUVs, 886 motorcyclesand 4 boats.

On December 5 the DNCD announced the confiscation of 30bales of drugs (around 1,000 kilos) in the Caribbean Sea, headed to DominicanRepublic’s southwestern coast.
