Police arrest 2 agents in theft at Haiti ambassador’s residence
Santo Domingo.- Two National Police officers and four civilians were arrested and charged with grand theft at the residence of Haiti ambassador Fritz Cineas, where they hauled off two safes with important documents and US$18,000.
Police corporals Jefery Jhoel Rosa Gomez and Sigfrido Encarnacion Rosa Oviedo, and civilians Neurys Ogando Otaño, Ronaldo Leandro Moreno Mejia, Luis Esmeraldo Abreu Santiago and Junior Samuel Felix (Junito) are charged with the robbery on February 5. The National Police said.
It said Ogando told investigators that he used his Toyota Camry to carry off the stolen items, and that Police seized his shotgun.
He said they used sledge hammers to break open the two safes at a house in Villa Mella.
The Police said it arrested Moreno in another raid in the Espaillat sector, and seized a 38 revolver, stolen from police Lt. Gabriel Félix Gómez, assigned to the ambassador’s residence.
In the press conference at Police headquarters Monday , Cineas said his cell had vanished from the table where the police disclosed the evidence of the theft, but police spokesman Mateo Moquete then said that it was in the Chief Police’s office.
