The country ranks 70% in e-government

Santo Domingo.- DominicanRepublic has advanced as high as 70% ine-government in recent years, according to Presidential Technology andCommunication Information Office (OPTIC) director Armando Garcia.

He said his agency has usedlocal and international surveys to establish the "substantial andsustained" growth figure every year with recent statistics on ICT ande-government.

Quoted by diariolibre.com.do,the official said he expects the country will reach over 50% in April, in theranking published every two years by the UN.

Garcia said the countrywas below 50% in ICT occupying 8th place in the Caribbean and 11thin Central America development two years ago. "We are at the sixth orseventh place now."

According to the resultsof the local ranking, the Web presence by agencies is 91%; technologicalinfrastructure at 93%; social network presence 94% and public assistancethrough social networks 47%.

In transparency sub-portalsthe presence is 72%; gender gap, or participation of women in the State, 56%; theuse of free software 50%; catalogs online services, 75%, which according to Garcia,is where citizens can access a website and can view its services.

He added that thecountry´s transactional ranking is close to reaching 15% this year, for which heurges harder work.
