Police recover loot in 3rd armored truck heist in 3months

Santo Domingo.- For the third time in as many months an armored truck has been hijacked while transporting large amounts of cash, in this occasion involving more than RD$16.0 million.

Local media report that one of the guards in the truck owned by the company Dominican Watchman is suspected of taking the money, which was recovered by police in the northwest town Navarrete.

The watchman identified as Jesus Maria Guzman "sprayed ammonia" on the face of his partner David Liriano, who was knocked unconscious.

Guzman allegedly fled with the money in the truck he later abandoned in the village Los Tocones.

Once Liriano recovered he helped police locate the truck, and arrested several people including Guzman. Police said they recovered US$63,000 and RD$13.3 million in cash.
