Fiona will hit Dominican soil on Monday but its effects will be felt from Sunday onwards

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) forecasts that tropical storm Fiona will pass through the national territory starting Monday morning and remain in the country until Tuesday morning.

In the most recent meteorological report, Gloria Ceballos, director of Onamet, indicates that Fiona is very close to the arc of the Lesser Antilles, and the maximum sustained winds remain at 85 kilometers per hour.

In addition, it indicated that it could generate accumulated rainfall of between 100 and 200 millimeters and that it could reach up to 400 millimeters (8-16 inches) in isolated points of the territory.

Meanwhile, the director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), retired major general Juan Manuel Méndez, announced that the provinces on yellow alert are Samaná, La Romana, El Seibo, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, Barahona, La Altagracia, María Trinidad Sánchez, Hato Mayor, Greater Santo Domingo, Peravia and Azua.

And in green alert are Duarte, Sanchez Ramirez, Monseñor Nouel, San Jose de Ocoa, San Juan, Monte Plata, and La Vega.
