Abinader dismisses officials for appropriating land from farmers in San Juan

Abinader also suspended the contracts of the civil servants

President Luis Abinader ordered the cancellation of all public officials who “illegally” appropriated land from peasants in the Agrarian Settlement of Guanito, in San Juan de la Maguana.

The head of state also suspended the contracts in favor of the public servants in said demarcation, following a complaint that said officials were allegedly dispossessing peasants of their plots of land in order to appropriate the land.

Homero Figueroa, a spokesman for the Presidency, announced the information about the suspension. “Because the public servant should worry about producing benefits for citizens and not be busy seeking personal benefits,” the official wrote through his Twitter account.

The decision of the first president of the nation was due after the communicator Valerio Mateo denounced that allegedly several government officials in San Juan would be dispossessing their plots of land to old farmers of the agrarian settlement of Guanito, for them to self-assign these lands.

“He also instructed the cancellation of the positions of all the officials who took lands from the Agrarian Settlement of Guanito, in San Juan de la Maguana. In addition, he indicated that in this administration there is a regime of consequences that applies to everyone, regardless of their level,” said Figueroa.

Mateo, presented a list in which are the alleged names and ID numbers of the old owners of the plots, and the officials who are now the alleged owners.

It is good these people were fired. They deserved it. The workers responsible for processing the land transfers should also be put under the magnifying glass. They know what is clean and what is dirty.
