Intent to link alleged kingpin to bloody jailbreak a ‘fable’

Santo Domingo.- Alleged kingpin Winston Rizik’s lawyer on Monday called the intent to link his client Friday’s jailbreak at Najayo Prison, with six dead and several hurt, a "low blow fable."

Pedro Duarte Canaan said Rizik “Cock fighter,” hasn’t even been called for questioning by investigators and remains in solitary confinement and not allowed to see sunshine.

"It’s illogical to mention him in this case, considering that they have him in a maximum security solitary, isolated from other prisoners, without being allowed to talk to anyone," Duarte Canaan said.

The Justice Ministry’s investigation centers on whether members of alleged drug gangs Rizik, the fugitive Pascual Cabrera Ruiz and the inmate Pascual Cordero Martinez (El Chino) perpetrated the bloody assault.

They are also probing how three guns, including a .357 Magnum revolver, were smuggled into the prison, one said to be owned by an alleged hit man Andy Martinez Valdez, shot and killed in the incident, and who allegedly had 10 cellphone chips.

The inmates who participated in jailbreak allegedly used three handguns, two of which were in the hands of as many of those killed.
