Dominican Republic Human Rights Court membership ‘unconstitutional’

Santo Domingo.- The Constitutional Court (TC) on Monday confirmed that Dominican Republic’s membership in the Inter-American Human Rights Court is unconstitutional, since its approval was neither debated nor approved by Congress.

A source quoted by elnacional.com.do said the justices voted 10 for with three dissenting, including Katia M. Jimenez, Hermogenes Santos and Isabel Bonilla.

The source said the TC ruling has been confirmed but has yet to be officially published.

"The ruling however doesn’t preclude Dominican Republic’s membership in the Inter-American Human Rights Commission, which acts as prosecutor before the Human Rights Court," the outlet said.
