Baleària to launch ferry service between San Pedro de Macorís and Puerto Rico soon

Santo Domingo.- Jean Luis Rodríguez, executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), highlighted significant progress at Seatrade Cruise Med 2024 on the construction of ports in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, and Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. This initiative will connect the two ports through a partnership with Spanish ferry company Baleària.

Rodríguez emphasized that the transformation of San Pedro de Macorís includes a new multifunctional passenger terminal, while Mayagüez will see the renovation of over 100,000 square meters of port facilities. The goal is to boost infrastructure investments and enhance the ports’ capabilities. He also noted that the Dominican Republic’s tourism offerings, from beaches to the colonial zone, continue to impress cruise passengers.

During Seatrade in Málaga, Apordom showcased several Dominican cruise terminals, including Port Cabo Rojo, Taíno Bay, Amber Cove, and others. The event featured meetings to establish new negotiations and strengthen cruise-related strategies, with a focus on attracting visitors and enhancing destination appeal.

Any commerce activity increase helps improve the country’s economy. Balearia will now compete Ferries Del Caribe for traffic. It provides exporters and importers and travelers more options of tariffs/prices. cargo capacity, passenger capacity, and travel dates. Everybody wins.
