Adompretur celebrates its 47th anniversary and World Tourism Day with a call for peace

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur) commemorated its 47th anniversary on the same date as World Tourism Day, aligning its celebration with this year’s theme, “Tourism and Peace.” The organization called on nations to work together to pave the way for dialogue and the restoration of peace, highlighting the role of tourism in fostering mutual understanding and harmony.

Adompretur’s board, led by President Yenny Polanco Lovera, held a floral offering ceremony at the Altar de la Patria in Santo Domingo. The event was attended by the board members and representatives of the association, who carried a wreath of flowers along with the Dominican and Adompretur flags.

During the ceremony, Polanco Lovera emphasized that this celebration holds special significance for tourism journalists. She pointed out that, thanks to the vision and initiative of its founder, Luis Augusto Caminero, the Dominican Republic has an institution that continues to make important contributions to the development of tourism, which remains a cornerstone of the country’s economy.

“In line with the theme ‘Tourism and Peace,’ Adompretur is committed to promoting quality tourism journalism that ensures peace and harmony among nations while also emphasizing the importance of cultural exchange and sustainable tourism practices,” Polanco Lovera stated.

The importance of World Tourism Day

World Tourism Day, celebrated annually on September 27, was established by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) to raise awareness about tourism’s role in the international community and its impact on social, cultural, political, and economic values. This year’s theme, “Tourism and Peace,” underscores tourism’s ability to foster understanding among people of different cultures and backgrounds, promote tolerance and contribute to global stability.

Tourism is seen as a force for good, promoting intercultural dialogue and fostering relationships across borders. By bringing people together, tourism helps break down prejudices, enhances mutual respect, and builds bridges between communities, contributing to a more peaceful and tolerant world.

Adompretur’s role in promoting responsible tourism

Adompretur aims to continue its work by promoting responsible and high-quality tourism journalism that supports the development of emerging communities and helps position the Dominican Republic as one of the most visited destinations in Latin America. The association has consistently advocated for tourism practices that are not only economically beneficial but also socially responsible and culturally respectful.

“On this World Tourism Day, we invite our members and Dominican journalists to work together in favor of peace, tolerance, and respect among public and private authorities in the tourism sector,” Polanco Lovera added.

The event was attended by several members of Adompretur’s 2023-2025 board, including Cristian Mota, Secretary General; Mayra De Peña, Director of Finance; Carmen Bretón, Director of Communication and Public Relations; and other key representatives. Their presence at the floral offering reaffirmed the association’s dedication to using tourism as a vehicle for peace and prosperity, both locally and globally.

With a commitment to quality journalism and the development of the tourism sector, Adompretur will continue to be a driving force in promoting the Dominican Republic as a leading destination while supporting sustainable and peaceful tourism practices.
