Kenya to send 600 more police officers to Haiti

Kenya.- Kenyan President William Ruto announced that an additional 600 police officers will be deployed to Haiti as part of a UN-backed mission aimed at restoring security in the gang-ravaged Caribbean nation. These officers will complete their pre-deployment training and be ready for duty next month, joining the 400 already sent by Kenya. Haiti’s interim Prime Minister Garry Conille, currently visiting Kenya, welcomed the announcement.

Kenya is leading the multinational force in Haiti, which is expected to consist of 2,500 troops. The mission is critical due to escalating violence, with gangs controlling 80% of the capital, Port-au-Prince, and attacking strategic sites. Ruto urged the international community for more financial support to sustain the mission, while Conille echoed the need for quicker international action.
