Bail set at US$2.0M for Dominican diplomat at UN: theprovince.com

Santo Domingo.- Bailhas been set at US$2 million over a prosecutor’s objection, for a DominicanRepublic diplomat being held in a bribe-related criminal case that also landeda former president of the United Nations Assembly behind bars, theprovince.comreports.

The outlet reportsthat magistrate judge says Friday that Francis Lorenzo “can stay at hismother’s Bronx home after bail conditions are met, including electronicmonitoring and a temporary waiver of immunity.”

Lorenzo, an “adjunct” ambassador to the UN, wasarrested Tuesday along with a former U.N. ambassador from Antigua and Barbuda.

The 48-year-old Lorenzoaccepted and paid bribes, prosecutors say, to help a billionaire Chinese realestate mogul influence the United Nations to support construction of amultibillion dollar U.N. conference centre in Macau, China.
