Dominican capital is the Caribbean’s least expensive destination

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, (BUSINESS WIRE).-SantoDomingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, is the least expensivedestination in the Caribbean. The latest survey from TravelMag.com has come tothis determination after comparing the region’s most popular locales.

The survey specifically examined 30 popular Caribbeandestinations based on their cost of lodging. This upcoming February, theCaribbean’s high season, served as the timeframe focus. The cost for thecheapest available double room with a rating of at least 3 stars served as thebasis of comparison.

Averagely speaking, in Santo Domingo, one of theCaribbean’s oldest cities, travelers will have to spend just $43 for the leastexpensive room this February. Punta Cana, the other Dominican Republicdestination considered by the survey, ranks 27th, or fourth least expensive,among all the locales considered. Its February overnight rate averages $87.

On the other end of the spectrum, St. Barts, a French overseascollectivity, ranks as the priciest destination in the Caribbean. An averagenightly price tag of $324 for its most affordable room, renders it theCaribbean’s most expensive locale. That figure represents in excess of 600%more than the same room in Santo Domingo.

The following table shows the five most and five leastexpensive destinations in the Caribbean based on the average rate for theircheapest available double room (minimum: 3-star hotel) during the time periodspanning February 1 through 29, 2016.

Please note: Only hotels rated at least three stars andlocated close to the beach have been considered by the survey. Also excludedwere hotels averaging neutral or bad overall client evaluations.
