Agents nab nearly half a million US$ from Puerto Rican-Dominican ring

Santo Domingo.- The antinarcotics agency (DNCD) on Thursdaysaid it seized 466,655 dollars in cash from an alleged international drugtrafficking ring formed by Dominicans and Puerto Ricans during an operation in VillaMella, Santo Domingo Norte.

In a press release, the DNCD said the money was hidden in twofalse-bottom cardboard boxes full of food products and clothing, which had beensmuggled from Puerto Ricco onboard the Ferry.

It said the confiscation resulted from a months-long investigationand vigilance by the DNCD.

The DNCD said just after 1pm an operations team stopped a ToyotaCamry on Mirabal Av. In Villa Mella, from where it was escorted together with itsdriver to agency headquarters.

Once there, a team of agents proceeded to search thevehicle in the presence of deputy prosecutors, and found the boxes with dollarsinside the trunk wrapped in plastic bags, the DNCD said. “The drug traffickingorganization involved in the case sends large sums of money to the country fromdrug sales in Puerto Rico, so the authorities maintain an investigation tocompletely dismantle this organized crime structure."
