9-1-1 Emergency bill passed by Deputies levies US$0.02 tax

Santo Domingo.- The Chamber of Deputies approved Wednesday the new National Emergency and Security System Law, which repeals Law 140-13, and creates a new US$0.02 tax for its financing, which must be paid by the telecom service providers.
The initiative would expand the emergency assistance system nationwide, and also aims to install video cameras in public spaces, also levies a fixed tax of $0.025 for each international text message that ends in providers’ networks.
The initiative by ruling party (PLD) deputy Elías Serrulle, now goes to the Senate, which is expected to pass it without changes.
