Irma: ‘the worst has yet to happen’ in Dominican Republic

 

 

 

Santo Domingo.- Emergency Operations Center (COE) director Juan Manuel Méndez on Thurs. warned Dominicans against lowering their guar and urged them tp keep abreast of the advisories throughout the day, because from powerful hurricane Irma “the worst has yet to happen.”

In a press conference, National Weather Office official Francisco Holguín said the rainfall in the country’s center and north could reach 200 millimeters, leading to heavy flooding. “The rains will increase throughout the day, swells, strong winds, on the north coast; also towards the northwest line, Montecristi.”

He said the downpours cover practically the entire national territory. “We cannot lower our guard until that event leaves our territory.”
