Santo Domingo.- Administrative minister, José Ramón Peralta, on Monday said the country obtained a RD$1.02 billion (US$20.4 million) surplus in the first quarter of 2018.
“While in the first quarter of 2017, the Central Government closed with a deficit of 13.9 billion pesos, in the first four months of 2018 it exhibited a surplus of 1.02 billion pesos,” the official said.
“The indicators are the result of prudent and sensible economic policies which are what have led risk rating agencies to improve the rating they give to the Dominican sovereign debt,” he said.
Nonetheless the official noted that Dominican Republic, despite being perceived as one of the region’s star economies, “cannot show the dynamism of exports as one of the fundamental pillars of this economic success.”
Peralta delivered the keynote speech at the Dominican Exporters Association’s (ADOEXPO) annual luncheon.
