Defense quarters the military after announced protest

R. Paulino. File

Santo Domingo.- Defense minister Rubén Paulino on Monday ordered all military to their quarter, in a memo to the commanders of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

The order, which has been in effect since 8am Tuesday, readies the military to be deployed in public safety operations, the official said.

Defense said the memo instructs a routine measure, but comes amid a called protest against the high fuel prices.

The protest set for 4pm is backed by two grassroots movements and some leaders of the Green March, including Claudio Caamaño.
