San José Costa Rica.- To develop capacities that promote investment in conservation, as well as to adopt best practices in tourism biodiversity to implement solidarity, responsible and sustainable tourism models, representatives from Honduras, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic exchanged experiences and knowledge in a three-day meeting in Costa Rica, managed by the German Cooperation for Development (GIZ) and the Biodiversity Pact for Mesoamerican (BPM).
“Knowledge management on biodiversity issues is a fundamental action for the tourism sector, since it depends absolutely on the services and resources provided by ecosystems, and ensuring that this sector is increasingly linked with the protection and conservation of resources will mitigate many of the environmental problems we face today,” said Svenja Paulino, director of the GIZ’d Biodiversity and Business Program.
Delegates from the Mayor’s Office of Las Galeras, Samana, Dominican Republic, the Dominican Environmental Consortium and the La Ceiba Chamber of Tourism of Honduras, were apprised of Costa Rica’s efforts on projects stressing sustainable eco tourism, as well as bolstering the benefits and impacts at the economic and social representation of tourism models committed to the conservation and sustainable use of resources, all with a view to forge future partnerships that benefits biodiversity in the region.
