Transport strike set for Nov. 27 could spread, union boss warns

Santo Domingo.- Bus owners association (Fenatrano) leader Juan Hubieres warned Monday that the 24-hour strike called by several civil society organizations for November 27 in the National District, could be extended to Santiago and the rest of the north region.

“Santiago and the Cibao demonstrated what’s to be done in this country; that strike on the (Nov.) 27th in the National District the Falpo supports it, I as a candidate also support it,” said Hubieres during a press conference in Santiago.

He said the walkout is to protest, among other points, the continuous rise in fuel prices.

Hubieres said a gallon of gasoline should cost around RD$159.00 (US$3.20) at this time; diesel RD$102.00 and propane gas RD$68.00.
