Dominican pavilion in Berlin looks to draw more German tourists

Berlin.- Deputy Tourism minister Fausto Fernandez on n Wed. opened Dominican Republic’s pavilion at Berlin’s 53rd annual International Tourism Exchange (ITB) held from today until Sunday.

The Dominican Republic seeks to increase the arrival of tourists from Europe, especially Germany, which last year accounted for 216,258 visitors, or 16.25% of all Europeans who came to the country.

Fernandez stressed the importance of the European market for the country’s tourism industry. “We hope to increase the arrival of German tourists with a view to the presidential goal of achieving 10 million tourists by 2020.”

“Germany represents one of the most important markets for the Dominican tourism industry. At present, this market is the sixth tourist destination worldwide for the Dominican Republic,” he said.

The official also praised the loyalty of German tourists with the Dominican market, who come to the country attracted by its beaches and resorts.

Fernandez was accompanied by Petra Cruz, director of the Tourism Promotion Office in Germany.
