This Friday the Dominican State once again implements the use of breathalyzers as a measure of control of drivers on the streets of Santo Domingo, in a pilot plan that promises to be expanded throughout the country.
Dominican law establishes that “it will be considered illegal to drive a motor vehicle on public roads when the degree of alcohol is greater than 0.5 grams per liter (gr / l) in the blood or 0.25 milligrams per liter (mgr / 1) in exhaled air.”
These measures will be taken from the results of the alcohol meter that will be carried out by the agents of the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett) at the time of the inspection of drivers.
However, in the case of drivers of public passenger transport vehicles, as well as those of cargo, taxis, schoolchildren or those who carry a learning permit, they must mark a record of 0.0 as a degree of blood alcohol.
On the other hand, if the test is positive, the Digesett agent may keep the driver under surveillance for up to four hours, but he may leave if a family member or person who is responsible for taking him to his destination appears.
These provisions are contained in article 258 of Law 63-17 of Mobility, Land Transportation, Traffic and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic.
