Santiago cable car launches regular operations

Santiago, DR.- Regular operations for the Santiago Cable Car commenced on May 1, covering a complete four-kilometer route with a fare of RD$35.00. Users expressed satisfaction with the convenience, speed, and modernity of the integrated transportation system.

The Office of Special Projects of Urban and Interurban Mobility, overseeing Line I of the Santiago Cable Car, provided details on the various payment methods available to users.

Payment options include cash transactions at ticket offices, utilization of the Santiago Integrated Transportation System (SIT Stgo.) mobility card, which can be purchased and recharged at Cable Car stations, and payment via VISA and MasterCard debit and credit cards.

The SIT Santiago card, priced at 100 pesos, includes a one-time payment of RD$60.00 for card acquisition and a balance of RD$40.00 for system use. This card can be recharged at various points both within and outside the cable car network.

To streamline access to the card, FITRAM conducted a pre-sale of SIT Stgo cards at cable car station ticket offices. This card remains valid indefinitely and is exclusively for use within the SIT Santiago transportation network, encompassing the Cable Car, Monorail, and future system corridors.

General Information about the Santiago Cable Car:

  • The cable car system features detachable clamp cabins capable of transporting 4,000 passengers per hour in each direction, accommodating over 64,000 passengers daily.
  • The initial section spans 4 kilometers, running from the La Yagüita del Pastor sector to the Las Carreras Central Terminal in Pueblo Nuevo, with stations at Central, Emiliano Tardif, Rene Klang de Guzmán, and Yolanda Santana.
  • The project aims to enhance mobility and urban revitalization in marginalized areas along the Yaque del Norte River, featuring 83 cabins in the first section, 23 bollards, and a cabin garage.
