Hoteliers urge approval of US$90.0M IDB loan for Colonial Zone

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic Hotels and Tourism Association, ASONAHORES, on Thurs. asked the Chamber of Deputies to approve the US$90 million Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) loan for the second stage of the “Promotion of Tourism in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo.”

It labeled as successful the Tourism Ministry’s initiative, “with tangible results and transparent execution under the demanding supervision of the prestigious entity.”

“We understand the concern expressed by different sectors of Dominican society on the issue of external indebtedness and the use of these resources, however, the case of the Colonial City is the type of project that we must support because it is an operation carried out by a multilateral international agency, with proven return, and with the appropriate application to the established parameters, subject to due diligence,” says ASONAHORES in a statement.
