Yaguirre reaffirms US commitment to war on drugs

Santo Domingo.- The United States Embassy on Monday reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to work jointly with Dominican Republic in its war on drug trafficking, according to a statement by Embassy Public Affairs advisor Todd Haskell.

The US Embassy also clarifies that Washington’s budget cuts could affect assistance programs in general. “In his comments in the Central Electoral Board, ambassador Raul Yzaguirre didn’t refer to specific reductions of United States’ assistance to Dominican Republic, and instead the fact that the government’s budgetary cuts could affect all governmental programs.”

The statement, sent to DT by Press Attaché Judith Ravin, aims to set the record straight concerning earlier press reports attributing to Yzaguirre comments made at the Central Electoral Board on a supposed reduction in U.S. assistance to the Dominican Republic to fight drug trafficking.
