High court rules to extradite man linked to presidential candidates (Update)

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Supreme Court today ruled to extradite Oscar Ezequiel Rodriguez Cruz to the United States, where he faces drug trafficking charges.

The high Court also rule to confiscate the assets of Rodriguez Cruz, accused by the U.S. authorities of having supplied, organized and transported varying amounts of cocaine to Boston.

FILE. Rodriguez, who was arrested early March, has been linked to opposition PRD party candidate Hipolito Mejía, in the campaign movement “Renacer con Papa” (rebirth with dad), and to the ruling PLD for a RD$500,000 check written as donationa for Danilo Medina’s campaign.

The Justice Ministry requested the confiscation of the assets of Rodriguez, who had been deported from the United State, which include houses, a tourist villa, an apart-hotel and numerous vehicles.
