SANTO DOMINGO.- In yet another first in modern political history, none of the Dominican Republic’s political parties will stage a massive rally to close their national campaigns, as both the major parties, PLD, and PRD, cited high cost and logistics challenges to opt for marches instead.
The ruling PLD party close its electoral campaign with a Thursday afternoon march in the capital with rank and file from greater Santo Domingo and adjacent communities.
In a statement the PLD said the march, headed by its presidential candidate, Danilo Medina, vice presidential candidate Margarita Cedeño, and president Leonel Fernandez, will start at the corner of Pedro Livio Cedeño St. with Duarte Av., winding south to the Colonial Zone, until the seaside avenue, the Malecon.
It said the participants will be treated to live music from a stage erected at the Malecon’s Plaza Juan Baron
It adds that first-aid kits will be available and health professionals will attend emergencies, and water bottles will be handed out throughout the route.
PRD party closes campaign
PRD party campaign executive director Tony Peña Guaba announced the close of their national campaign, slated for tomorrow Friday starting 2pm also starting at Duarte Av. with Pedro Livio Cedeño, but with rallies simultaneous across the country.
