Zovatto suggests to analyze the preferential voting system

Santo Domingo.– International Democracy and Electoral Assistance Institute (IDEA) director for Latin America Daniel Zovatto suggested the Dominican Republic to properly assess the positive and negative aspects of preferential voting before making a final decision on its application.

Zovattosaid he is willing to hold a workshop to bring the country the experiences of other nations "and if you still are convinced that this is best for democracy, then move in that direction."

He said that nowdays several countries in Latin America, where the preferential voting is used, are discussed how to get out of it, and mentioned the cases of Peru, Panama and Brazil.
