The National Meteorology Office (ONAMET) and the Emergency Operations Center (COE) placed the entire country under alert for hurricane conditions due to the possible passage of tropical storm Fiona that threatens to touch national territory next Monday with the category of a hurricane.
In this sense, the agencies issued a red alert for twelve provinces: San Cristóbal, Greater Santo Domingo, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Samaná, La Romana, Hato Mayor, La Altagracia, El Seibo, María Trinidad Sanchez and Monte Plata.
Likewise, eight provinces are under yellow alert which are: Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, Azua, Peravia, San José de Ocoa, Barahona, Monseñor Nouel, and La Vega.
Meanwhile, the remaining 11 provinces of the 31 that make up the entire national territory are on green alert: Hermanas Mirabal, Valverde, San Juan, Santiago, Monte Cristi, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Bahoruco, Independencia, Pedernales, and Santiago. Rodriguez.
Earlier this Saturday, the director of ONAMET, Gloria Ceballos, also through her Twitter account, indicated that the storm is moving 20 kilometers west with maximum sustained winds of 95kph; it is expected to reach hurricane force while moving through the northeastern Caribbean.
