Ex Dom. Rep. president, Cuba’s Raul Castro mull regional topics

HAVANA.- Former Dominican Republic president Leonel Fernandez met with Cuba president Raul Castro Thursday, and discussed the role Cuba can play as interim president of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), among other topics.

Fernandez, who’s also president of Dominican Republic’s ruling party (PLD) also met with Venezuela Foreign minister Elias Jaua, who’s visiting his country’s convalescing president Hugo Chavez in Havana.

On Friday Fernandez plans to meet at the offices of his Global Foundation for Democracy and Development, FUNGLODE, with former Brazil president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva, who is currently visiting Dominican Republic.

A source quoted by elnuevodiario.com said Lula will meet with Fernandez at 5pm, but with no access for the media.

Fernandez took part in the 3rd conference on the "Balance of the World" which concluded on in Havana Wednesday and attended by representatives from more than 50 American, European and Asian countries.
