Police nab two men cutting a major bridge’s suspension cables

Santo Domingo. – Two men were arrested Sunday afternoon caught by a police patrol while cutting one of Juan Bosch Bridge’s suspension cables, in the sector Guachupita, putting the structure’s stability and motorists at risk.

The Police said the agents injured one of the alleged thieves while trying to escape and mimicking reaching for a gun to fire it.

The Police said Edwin Méndez, 28, and Gabriel Ramirez, 32, will be brought up on charges in the next few hours.

It said a hacksaw was seized from both men, who also robbed steel components from the bridge, adding that the agents shot Méndez in the left leg, for which he was hospitalized.
