Ruling party candidate has 47.9% to opposition’s 41.8 %, poll

Santo Domingo.- A nationwide survey by Spanish pollster Insight conducted from January 3 to 8 found that ruling PLD party presidential candidate Danilo Medina has 47.9% of the votes in the May 20 election, to 41.8 % for Hipólito Mejía, of the opposition PRD party.

The poll, which asked 1,200 people eligible to vote, found that the rest of the candidacies are far behind, with the pro-government PRSC party in third with 1.9%, followed by minority opposition organization Country Alliance with 1.7%.

The survey also found that 3.3% of the eligible population will not vote in the presidential elections, with 1.9% undecided thus far.

The poll’s margin of error will be available shortly.
