Santo Domingo.- Dominican Autism Foundation president Ada Drullard on Tuesday warned society and parents to be alert to possible symptoms of the disorder which could affect their children, for its detection and early diagnosis.
Heading a ceremony to mark World Autism Day, the expert said timely detection leads to an effective intervention program, to promote full personal potential and social development of the child and proper guidance for their families.
She said autism is a developmental disorder affecting children as young as three, jeopardizing their communication and language skills, social relations, imagination and the capacity to play fictional games.
Drullard said the Foundation is a vehicle to provide specialized care through a skilled team, with an orientation program for families through courses, workshops and lectures.
