More than 100 lawyers gather at courthouse to support former president

Santo Domingo.- More than 100 lawyers in at least four buses from the Cibao region arrived at the Ciudad Nueva courthouse Friday as a show of support former president Leonel Fernandez, who faces a hearing on charges of money laundering, filed by Guillermo Moreno, president of the opposition minority party Al-Pais.

Fernandez has been subpoena to appear in the first hearing on Moreno’s accusation that includes malfeasance of public funds.

National District prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, who declined reporters’ questions, will decide on the merits of the charges, which include the think tank Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (FUNGLODE), founded and headed by Fernandez.
