Police to deploy 17,000 agents to curb holiday crimes

Santo Domingo.- The National Police Wednesday announced that 17,000 agents will be patrolling nationwide starting December 1, to prevent robberies, assaults and other crimes during the holidays.

Police spokesman Maximo Baez said the measure forms part of the Safe Christmas 2011 Plan, to preserve life and property during that period.

"The agents will be deployed according to our strategic plan, regarding the number of inhabitants, economic activity in each zone and the places that we know are more inclined toward the occurrence of criminal actions."
