Higuey collision injures at least 16, including 12 tourists

Higuey, Dominican Republic.- At least 16 people were hurt, including 12 Puerto Rican tourists, when a "safari" truck collided with an SUV three kilometers east of Higuey, on the road to Punta Cana.

The victims were taken to the Virgilio Cedano clinic and other local medical centers, some with serious fractures and other injuries.

Public Health ambulances and firefighters transferred the victims, whose identities haven’t been provided thus far.

The tourists, who are lodged in a hotel in the area, were on an eco-tour when the accident occurred.

Among the Dominicans injured figure the truck driver and the others were in the SUV headed toward the town of Otra Banda.
