Police say criminal acts have dropped 48% in 28 days

Santo Domingo.- The National Police announced a 48% decrease in criminal activity in the past 28 days. In a press release, the institution shared that there has been a significant reduction of 21% in criminal incidents nationwide over the past year. Additionally, crime has decreased by 15% over the past two years and by 25% over the past five years. These percentages were obtained through the strategic guidelines implemented by the Police.

One of the initiatives that contributed to the reduction in crime is the Quadrant Patrol Plan, which focuses on areas C-1 and C-6 in the Central Polígono of the National District. According to the Police data, different types of criminal activities such as assaults, snatches, thefts, breaks, gender violence, and sexual violence have registered a decrease in occurrences in the past one, two, and five years.

For instance, there has been a 28% reduction in assaults in one year, 16% in two years, and 32% in five years. Snatches decreased by 38% in one year, 34% in two years, and 32% in five years. Similarly, thefts decreased by 21% in one year, 5% in two years, and 15% in five years. Break-ins decreased by 11% in one year, 11% in two years, and 21% in five years. Gender violence decreased by 1% in one year, 52% in two years, and 21% in five years. Lastly, sexual violence decreased by 38% in one year, 58% in two years, and 50% in five years.

Moreover, the Police reported a reduction in criminal incidents in the provinces of Santo Domingo and Santiago in the same period. Specifically, criminal acts in the capital city decreased by 27% in one year, 16% in two years, and 20% in five years.
