Alfredo Pacheco seeks to create a special commission to investigate the plenary session of the Chamber of Accounts

On Thursday, the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, presented a draft resolution proposing the formation of a special commission to investigate the actions of regular members of the Chamber of Accounts. The project was co-signed by Julito Fulcar, the spokesman for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in the Chamber of Deputies, and legislator Ramón Bueno. Pacheco stated that complaints and criticisms of the Chamber of Accounts have been “recurring,” and his initiative aims to investigate everything related to the situation within the institution. The project cites several internal conflicts in the Chamber of Accounts that merit a special commission to investigate the facts.

If approved, the commission will have 15 days to present a report before the chamber, and the plenary session will then make its recommendations. Pacheco hopes that the situation will be resolved before the Chamber of Deputies decides to take a more drastic determination. He believes that the creation of a special commission would be the first step to carry out a political trial against the officials. Several deputies have also submitted similar resolutions, indicating the good spirit of the Lower House to investigate the actions of the Chamber of Accounts.

Pacheco described the situation as “unacceptable” and stated that the congressional leadership attempted to resolve the conflicts with several meetings, but the situation became “recurring.” He argued that out of maturity, they tried to resolve the situation, but duty calls them to investigate what is happening there. Pacheco also called for a modification to the Chamber of Accounts law, as the ability to replace the plenary session every two years creates situations of internal conflicts between the titular members themselves. He believes that the supervisory body cannot have internal aspirations that make it possible for some regular members to impede the performance of others.

On Tuesday, the president of the Chamber of Accounts, Janel Andrés Ramírez, revealed that he has approved illegal decisions only because the plenary session authorizes them.
