Riot Police guard Electoral Court as opposition party strife festers

Santo Domingo.- The Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) is under heavy guard by National Police antiriot agents, deployed to avert disturbances stemming from the challenge filed the by 90 leaders of the opposition PRD party who seek reinstatement to the organization’s National Executive Committee (CEN).

The plaintiffs allege they were removed from the senior grouping by PRD president Miguel Vargas “unilaterally.”

The high Court will also hear Vargas’ request for custody of PRD headquarters, to avoid disturbances during the of CEN meeting, whose date has yet to be set.
