‘Not one clean government agency,’ top auditor says

Santo Domingo.- Accounts Chamber president Licelott Marte revealed Tuesday that the country’s 232 municipal districts have many irregularities which she promised to disclose in the coming days, noting that the findings will be surprising regarding the amounts of malfeasance of local tax revenues and government funds.

The official said "there hasn’t been one single clean agency" during her tenure in the Accounts Chamber and have all have committed "mistakes, failure to comply with internal control or findings in audits to the councils and municipal districts.”

Judicial Branch audit

Marte also revealed that the judicial branch will be audited, at the request of Supreme Court chief justice Mariano German.

Marte, accompanied by other members of the Chamber during a meeting with media directors, said the country’s lack of institutionalization and organized bookkeeping hinders the gathering of documents needed to conduct audits.
