Electoral Board chief blames ruling party for not passing political parties law

Santo Domingo.- Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario on Thursday blamed the ruling PLD party for failing to pass the law on political parties, noting that it has no excuse since it has a majority in Congress since 2006.

He also affirmed that president Danilo Medina failed to keep his campaign promise to promote the legislation, noting that as recent as 2012 the JCE pushed two agreements agreed with the leaders of the main political organizations, the Catholic Church and civil society representatives.

"If that law isn’t approved, it’ s responsibility of the Dominican Liberation Party, which holds a majority in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. It has no excuses not to modernize the electoral system and the party system," the official said, speaking to open an international seminar, sponsored by the JCE and the UN Development Program.
