Police bust gang carried out “express” kidnappings

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Police Wednesday announced the arrest of five “dangerous criminals” who were part of a gang that carried out “express” kidnappings in the National District, and seized three handguns, two bullet-proof vests, face hoods, an SUV, a car, cash and five cell phones.

It said the detainees, Alex Quezada Santana, Ramón Alberto Tejada Brito, 25, Carlos Joel Mora, 24, Danilo Augusto, and Angel Ovalle (El Alemán) had kidnapped a merchant and received 100,000 pesos in ransom, but had demanded one million from the victim’s relatives.

They were identified by the retailer Joan Manuel Figuereo as the people posing as Antinarcotics (DNCD) agents who kidnapped him Monday while he was in colmado in the sector Ensanche Luperón.
