Member of security detail of president’s daughter is 2nd officer murdered in 2 weeks

Santo Domingo.- A member of the security detail of president Danilo Medina’s daughters Wednesday became the second victim of fatal attacks on military officers in the past two weeks, with the death of 1st Lt. Zuleika Ponciano, 25.

The National Police Homicide investigates the murder of Ponciano, shot by gunmen in the sector El Rosal, near the San Isidro Airbase in Santo Domingo East.

According to Police the assailants fled with the weapon and other personal items of the junior officer, who was a member of the National Investigations Dept. (DNI).

Ponciano’s murder reportedly occurred around 5:40am while she awaited transport to the National Palace.

On Monday unidentified gunmen shot and killed Dominican Air Force 1st Lt. Manuel de Jesús Sosa in the barrio Mejoramieno Social.
