Army chief survives chopper crash in SW, officer hurt (Update)

Santo Domingo.- Army chief of staff Maj. Gen. José Matos and two of his officers escaped serious injury when the helicopter in which they were travelling made a crash landing.

Local media report that Matos and his companions received only minor injuries, while the chopper was totally destroyed.

The accident occurred while the commanding officer inspected the border area near Pedernales province (southwest) around 11am..
