Dominican Red Cross aims to create the O-Negative Blood Club

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Red Cross (CRD) on Wednesday announced the creation of a "O-Negative Blood Type Donors Club," to help carriers in emergencies, since theirs isn’t compatible with other groups for transfusion.

CRD director Dr. Ligia Leroux said the entity plans an awareness campaign for the population and companies whose workers have that type of blood to become involved in the project .

"We’re calling for the media’s support us to create this club of donors, especially because we know that the press plays a key role when a person needs this type of plasma transfusion," the official said.

In a statement, Leroux said O-negative people have a special characteristic since despite being universal donors for all blood groups, "they can only receive blood from other O-negatives."
