Officials probe African couple’s visit to Puerto Plata for ebola: Report

Santo Domingo.- The Public Health Ministry and the Immigration Agency launched an investigation Wednesday morning into the visit to Puerto Plata by a couple from Sierra Leone, one of the countries most affected by the ebola virus.

The couple reportedly arrived at Puerto Plata’s Luperón Airport last Saturday afternoon aboard flight from Miami, and had left the country Tuesday night.

An employee of the Internal Taxes Agency became aware of the couple’s nationality as they left the airport.

A source quoted by elnacional.com.do revealed that Public Health and Immigration officials were still holding behind-closed-door meetings Wednesday afternoon with airlines representatives, Airports Contractor Aerodom executives and Airports Dept. officials to confirm the case. “The source which confirmed the meeting said the results would be made public to avert panic.”
